Thursday Spotlight – Sarah Reid

*Name : Sarah Reid

*Origin: Sydney, Nova Scotia

*Years in Fort McMurray : 6

*Animal(s) :
-Sandy 5yr old Golden Retriever/Golden Lab Cross
-Merlin 7 yr old black and white shorthair  cat
-Panther 7yr old black shorthair cat
-Cody 13 yr old Paint horse gelding
-Emmy 13 yr old Peruvian Paso/Tennessee Walking horse Mare
-Franklin 17 yr old female Red Eared Slider turtle and a tank full of tropical fish

*Interesting facts : Panther is polydactyl so he has extra digits on both his front and back feet and extra joints in the digits too. He also has really long nails compared to his brother. He even has a really long curved nail that grows in between his “thumb” and other digits. I’ve had Franklin the turtle since she was smaller than the size of a quarter. She now weighs over 3.5 lbs.

*Favorite treats : The horses love white peppermints, apples and carrots too. Sandy loves anything (haha) and the cats love to try and escape outside for grass.

*Favorite trick : Both cats will sit for a treat. Of course being cats they only perform on their own time so it can take awhile and many “sits” before they actually sit. I’m working on them giving their paws but it also depends on whether they feel like it or not.

*Your Thoughts on Adopting a Rescue: I think adopting a rescue is the way to go. There are so many deserving animals in need of a second chance. I could never see myself going to a breeder to purchase an animal when there are so many deserving ones in shelters and rescues. I do recommend to do your research and be honest with yourself about what you can handle before you adopt.

*Quote : Some of my best friends never say a word to me
