*Name: Jacquie McFarlane
*Origin: Regina, SK (but moved here when I was 2)
*Years In Fort McMurray: 25 years and counting
*Animal(s) (age, breed, name): Bruno – estimated age 9, been with us 5 years Lola – estimated age 5, been with us 3 years We like to call them Chiwieners as we’re not sure of their breed.
*Interesting Facts about your animal(s): Both are Mexican street dogs from Cabo San Lucas rescued by Pawsitive Match in Calgary. We found Bruno online through petfinder.com where a variety of rescue societies list animals they have available for adoption. Bruno used to be the same colour as Lola but he’s gotten very white as he’s gotten older. Lola’s original name was Tina, but we just had to change it. Bruno loves socks and carries them everywhere, which is why I don’t have any pairs anymore. Lola is like a big log and you can pretty much do anything to her. Bruno is like a person and understands when you talk to him, especially the words out, ice, hungry, walk and treat. Most days Lola will barely respond to her own name.
*Animal(s) Favorite Treat: Bruno loves ice cubes and views them as a treat. He will rarely drink from a water bowl unless he’s very thirsty but will eat ice all day long. Lola will eat anything but loves popcorn and sunflower seeds.
*Animal(s) Favorite Trick: They don’t really know any tricks but they’ve both run away once and each time they ran home while we were looking for them.
*Perspective on Adopting a Rescue: We love both of our little dogs. They’re such different personalities. Both times we were just casually looking for a dog and as soon as we saw each of them and read their profiles we knew they were part of our family. Our lives would be so different without them.
