*Perspective on Adopting a Rescue?
-I think when you rescue an animal they have a much deeper bond with you and you with them. I was lucky to be able to rescue Garfunkel from the very harsh cold winter months. She was born to a feral cat outside sometime in July. We moved to town in September. She started coming around late November. It took many weeks of leaving food and water out for her and a mat to stand on before she stuck around when we opened the door. And then one day she must have made up the mind that we wouldn’t hurt her, came right inside and made us her own human pets. She chose to adopt us and she’s made my world so incredible. She trusts me unconditionally to the point that even the vet has commented on how she looks to see if I react to what they are doing and if I don’t she lays there and let’s them do what they need to do. Most rescued pets bond very deep with their owners. It’s an incredible experience. I would have never gotten a cat any other way.
Does you animal(s) love to go for car rides?
She sleeps for the most part when she isn’t grumbling about how mad she is that you’ve put her in a kennel
*What’s your favorite animal product?
I keep her on the blue diet. She hates chicken so salmon all the way. And she has an obsession with balls. Tennis balls, cat balls, dog balls, golf balls you name it she has it.
*Why do you think volunteering at an animal rescue/shelter is important?
I think people need to know and understand what happens at pet shelters. I think the more informed people are the more responsible people will become as pet owners. Plus without volunteers, many animals would be turned away from shelters.
*Anything extra you would like to add?
I suffer from Lupus and since having her in my life, my flare ups have calmed down and I don’t get as sick as fast. She’s a great companion when you don’t want anyone around. She always knows when I’m about to get sick and doesn’t leave my side. She’s one of the most intelligent animals I’ve ever met, she picks up tricks fast and almost anything else you try to teach her. She is very much a people cat.
