Thursday Business Spotlight – Condor For Pets

thursdayHere is an interview with a super neat company – Condor For Pets! I am a dog parent that loves to bring my dog places with me, to the park, to the store, on trips and I am always cautious when bringing him with me. Honestly Rolo would live in the car if he could!  I would never leave him somewhere that is uncomfortable and this device will reassure you!

*What is the name of your business?

Condor for Pets

*Who is filling out this interview?
Penni Blake, COO

*How long have you been with the company for?
2 Years

*How long has your business been around for?
Condor Temperature Monitoring has been around for 2 Years. Condor for Pets is the next great product in the Condor Temperature Monitoring suite of technology. We have it designed, and prototyped. We are preselling for our first production run to reduce cost. We are a USA manufacturer and we will NEVER manufacture overseas. Getting costs low is important to maintain this business model.

*Why was it started?
There is no product on the market that reliably monitors temperature conditions inside cars, kennels, barns and other animal habitats and automatically alerts owners when temperatures reach unsafe levels. Currently, there are many efforts to raise awareness but each day there are many stories about animals dying in cars from heat related illness. There is a misconception that responsible pet owners don’t take their dogs with them and leave them in cars. That’s simply not true. Many of us travel, and vacation with pets because we love them as part of the family. Unfortunately, they can’t go in all the places we can and we often aren’t aware of hot it’s getting and how fast. Our product takes the guess work and argument out of it. It’s affordable, easy to use, and safe! In addition, you can tell people all day long to leave their pets at home but they simply aren’t going to. This product ensures that if they do take them, they will remain safe.

*Do you have any animals? If so, name, breed and something interesting about them?
I have a cat, a black lab, and fish. My lab “Logan” LOVES going places. We have a long driveway and he will literally run across the yard, leap in the air and jump in front of the car if I try to leave without him. With our product I know when he’s in an unsafe temperature environment.

*What do you specialize in?
We special in temperature monitoring devices for businesses and consumers. We currently have the ONLY wirefree, wireless, NO INSTALLATION temperature sensor on the market. Our application has more features than any of our competitors and no one can beat our price. We offer “simple solutions to complex problems” We don’t believe that the most advanced technology has to be over complicated or overpriced. We offer the most advanced technology at a price almost anyone can afford. www.condortemp.com

*What types of services do you offer?
We currently offer Condor for Business which offers electronic record keeping for the food service industry for HACCP as well as temperature monitoring to ensure food safety (www.condortemp.com). We will be launching three more products of the next 12 months after Condor for Pets (www.condorpet.com).

*What is the approx. cost?
We now charge $65 which includes the first year of service and service each year after is only $15 per year for the Wi-Fi model. For cellular its $85 which includes the first year of service and each year after is only $25 per year.

It can be used year round in hot or cold weather and monitor temperature for any living thing. We are taking presale orders at our Indiegogo site https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/condor-for-pets-temperature-monitoring/x/7582288

*If someone wanted to book an appointment with you how do they get a hold of you?
penni.blake@condortemp.com or 571-241-8619

*Any special events coming up this year for you?
Yes we will be at the first annual Loudoun Pet Expo in Loudoun County Virginia on September 6th.

*What inspires you?
All of the owners of our company come from executive positions at very large corporations. We got tired of the greed and corporate grind and didn’t really feel like we were making a difference. We know what technology costs and its far less than what is normally charged. We think you can charge a fair price and bring technology to customers that couldn’t otherwise afford it. We also believe strongly in bringing manufacturing back to this country where it belongs and employing our veterans. We make a slim margin on our sensor by doing so but we believe its worth it. One of our owners is a disabled veteran injured in combat, and two of our owners are ex Navy. We have a special place in our hearts for veterans and feel that if someone is willing to risk their life to protect ours without even knowing our name, we will find a place for them as positions in our company open up as a priority. We want to be a different kind of company and that inspires us a lot. In addition, we want to give back in lots of ways. We are a very charitable bunch!

*What do you plan to accomplish with your business in 2014?
We launched Condor for Business in early 2014 and have gained a lot of traction and have an impressive list of happy customers. Our customers aren’t just satisfied they are delighted with the product and that’s what excites us. We want to start sales for Condor for Pets now and hear from our customers about the times we were able to help them ensure their pets didn’t suffer needlessly. We actually want to keep a count like “1,000 dogs kept safe and counting”

*Do you do any charity work?
Yes!
It’s in our corporate charter. Before we made our first sale we partnered with JDSA (www.jdsanything.com) a charity in the Orlando area that believes you can change the world by simple small acts. We support them through work and donation. We also give $2 for every sensor sold to animal charities. On our website we explain how anyone can raise money for an animal charity if they wish. If someone buys a sensor and does not name a charity we donate the $2 to Harbor House Paws for Peace Kennel in Orlando. This is an AWESOME kennel that takes in animals of those seeking shelter from domestic abuse and violence (http://www.harborhousefl.com/get-involved/pawsforpeacekennel/). We are sure we will find lots of other ways to give back! We believe in doing so. It’s just who we are

It’s very true that people are still going to to leave their dogs in the car. I had to when it was just me and my dogs on a six hour road trip. Despite my distaste for ever leaving my dogs along in the car, I really had to go to the restroom. Dogs are not allowed in public restrooms and so I had to hurry. I hated to do it, but it was necessary. I didn’t leave my dogs in the car long enough to need this product, but I can see how it can be helpful. Please keep in mind, though, that leaving your dog along in the car is illegal in many cities regardless of a temperature control. Also keep in mind that pet theft is a very real danger. There are some sick people out there who will steal a dog with the intent of selling it or for collecting a reward later. Or even for using as a bait dog. There are also some people out there who will harass an unattended dog.
