This Tuesday Business Spotlight is on a company that just about to finish their kickstarter campaign called LEADAHOSE. What is a Leadahose you ask? Well be sure to read the interview below to find out and support their kickstarter campaign and get one for yourself —> by visiting this link https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/leadahose/leadahose

*What is the name of your business?

LeadaHose

*Who is filling out this interview?
Cameron Morton

*How long have you been with the company for?
I have been developing the idea ever since Wilma found her 1st mud puddle, so I would say 5 years.

*How long has your business been around for?
We registered the business in November 2013.

*What is your product and why was did you invent it?
The LeadaHose is a new dog leash that’s designed for dogs who love to get dirty. The easy-to-use design incorporates a hose so you can clean off your dog wherever you are. The LeadaHose is an all-new Aussie invention that came about mostly due to our headstrong young German Shepherd puppy – Wilma.

Like most puppies, Wilma didn’t listen to anything or anyone. If she wanted to roll in the mud or a pond, she did. In fact, if there was any way she could get dirty, wet and smelly, preferably all at once, she was there. It didn’t help that we also had to drive to and from the park, and couldn’t quite wash out the whole car every day…

So we started carrying a park bag at all times. As well as balls, toys and poo bags, it contained a short hose that we made up to fit onto the council taps so we could wash her wherever we went. In summer we were using it daily, either to clean Wilma off or to cool her down to try to prevent the mud-bath happening to begin with.

At first we thought it was just us with our crazy dog who needed a hose on demand, but it quickly became very popular with the whole park crew and everyone had different reasons. Among the first converts were Maddy, the border collie who went for a swim in black mud whenever she got too hot, and Scout, a bitser who loved playing in the spray. Then we got to know Bob, a cattle dog who liked to disappear and come back covered in poo, Coby, a black greyhound who overheated, and Tottie, a terrier with a penchant for mud to rival Wilma’s. Eventually we had to bring the hose for all our friends as much as for ourselves!

So the hose was useful and popular, but it was a heavy, extra piece of stuff that was a pain to carry around.

Being a fairly practical person I hated carrying the extra items, and couldn’t help thinking there had to be a way of combining the essential leash and the hose that kept coming in handy. I’d seen flat garden hoses down at the hardware shop and the idea just wouldn’t go away… what if I could make a light, strong, easy-to-use dog leash that was also a functioning hose?

So after about 50 prototypes, the LeadaHose was born!

We patented the idea, found suppliers, lined up a manufacturer, and now we’re seeking funding on Kickstarter so that we can finish the most expensive part of the project – making the molds for the injection-molded parts. We’re looking to raise at least $20,000 by September 9.

*Do you have any animals? If so, name, breed and something interesting about them?

Our German Shepherd, Wilma, is an expert at getting dirty and the inspiration for LeadaHose. She loves the beach, any body of water except a bath, and stand up paddleboarding!

*What is the approx. Cost?
$39 AUD for one LeadaHose is the full retail price. 50 lucky backers will be able to snap one up on Kickstarter for $29 AUD as a pre-order special, and 100 will get it for $34 AUD.

*What inspires you?
Wilma inspired us to create LeadaHose, and she inspires us every day! Adventure and optimism are my bywords, without them I would never have come this far.

*What do you plan to accomplish with your business in 2014?
When we achieve our Kickstarter campaign goal, we will strive to have the injection molds made in October so that the first orders can be placed in November and shipped out in January!

*Do you do any charity work?
We are part of a very tight-knit community of dog owners based around Sydney Park, Sydney’s largest off leash dog park. We spend a lot of time there and get involved in the care and maintenance including plant a tree days, community gardens and the upcoming model farm
