This Thursday’s Business Spotlight it on a pet sitter in our city of Fort McMurray, AB. I have met Terri a numerous amount of times and her love for animals definitely shines bright :) If you are in need of a pet sitter in town be sure to call/contact her :)
*What is the name of your business?
My Pet Puggle
*Who is filling out this interview?
*How long has your business been around for?
Since September 2013
*Why was it started?
I started the business just by putting a simple ad on kijiji. I absolutely adore animals and love being around them. We bought our home in June of 2012 and our friends always brought their animals to me to watch while they are away and I thought “well if my friends need this service, I’m sure there is a demand.”
Eventually I started building clients and realized that this is a business I could do full-time! So I got my business license, insurance etc and My Pet Puggle was born!
*Do you have any animals? If so, name, breed and something interesting about them?
I have 1 dog and a ½, Let me explain. My dog is Beckett and she is a 2 ½ year old female puggle that I adopted from the Fort McMurray SPCA in September 2012, she had a broken leg at the time but other than a scar and a small limp you would never be able to tell! She absolutely loves everyone and all animals which works out great when you run a pet sitting business out of your home. She is adventurous and absolutely loves walks!!
Zim my ½ dog came unexpectedly into our lives February of last year, I was out doing my pet checks and seen this beautiful male Husky Sheppard running down the road, he wasn’t wearing a collar or tags so naturally he came home with me, I searched every outlet I could to try to find the owner but he was never claimed. Our best friends live in our basement so they decided to keep him! This is why I call him my ½ dog haha. I fostered a mom and her 6 puppies in May of 2013 for 7 weeks from the SPCA and long story short Mr. Zim is one of my puppies from that litter. He’s roughly 1 ½ year old, and is smart as a whip however he still hasn’t figured out stairs and makes me laugh every time he goes up and down them.
*What do you specialize in?
Pet Sitting/Daily House Checks/Walking
*What types of services do you offer?
I will pet sit your animal in my home while you are away or working or I will go to your home and check in on your animal and walk your dog while you are away or working.
*What is the approx. cost?
*If someone wanted to book an appointment with you how do they get a hold of you?
They can call or text 780-381-9477 email email@example.com or check out my facebook page http://www.facebook.com/mypetpuggle
*Any special events coming up this year for you?
I am always looking for trade shows or ways I can get involved in the community but nothing booked…yet.
*What inspires you?
My dog Beckett, I’m not entirely sure what her past is but judging by the broken leg and the conditions she was in before we brought her home we believe she was abused. The vet wasn’t sure if she would be able to keep her leg but thankfully she did. You would never be able to tell with Beckett she is the happiest, sweetest dog in the whole world and just loves everyone! Goes to show what a positive attitude can do!
*What do you plan to accomplish with your business in 2014?
So far this year I was able to go full-time with My Pet Puggle (I worked in the hotel industry for over 6 years before) so that alone is accomplishment for me! However building my clientele and getting my name out there as a IN MY HOME pet sitting would be something I would like to do more of.
*Do you do any charity work?
I was heavily involved with the SPCA for a few years but juggling my previous job and starting My Pet Puggle I have neglected it a bit. Guess it’s time to start again!
