Thursday Blogger Interview – PetCareRx and PetPlus

thursday
*Who is filling out this Interview?

Sam Bourne

*Where are you from?
PetCareRx/PetPlus

*Tell me a little about yourself?
I am a writer/editor/stand-up comedian that manages two blogs (one for PetCareRx and one for PetPlus). As such, I am a lover of pets, but also pragmatic about the realities of pet parenting. Pets are amazing, but taking care of them isn’t always a cake walk.

*What is your blog called?
The Wet Nose Press (PetCareRx) and The Retriever (PetPlus)

*When did you start blogging?
2013

*Why did you start blogging?
I was hired to help write copy and content for PetCareRx out of college and found a home in their blog. I really enjoy being able to cover current stories or just talk about something that is interesting to me.

*How often do you blog? Is it a set schedule or random posts?
I try to write a post every other day. Sometimes it is more like one a day.

*What is your blog about?
Both blogs cover any topic that can be linked back to pet health and wellness. Occasionally I will include the odd goofball post (there might be a “25 puppies in costume for Halloween” post coming down the pike…)

*Do you have any animals?
Currently I do not, but I am looking for a cat to adopt as we speak.

*What do you hope to achieve with your blog in 2014?
Reach a wider audience and find new ways to help pet parents care better for their pets.

*Have you ever attended any Blog Conferences? If so what ones and how was it?:
I have not.

*What do you get inspiration from?
Oooh good question. I grew up in a house with lots of pets, which I am sure played no small part in how I view pets and being a good pet parent. You got to draw from what you know, right?

*Any advice for someone wanting to start their own Animal Blog?
Go for it! It may take a while to find your voice, but just keep on trucking and try your hardest to be honest. It seems like an obvious piece of advice, but be yourself. It is easy to start typing and realize that you’ve suddenly become some stodgy professor trying to cram every $20 word you know into one sentence. Keep it simple.

*What are some of your favorite pet blogs to read?
Obviously, I love Confessions of a Rescue Mom. I also like to check with Dogster, BarkPost, and The Dodo just to keep current on what’s happening in the pet-iverse. I wish I had more time to keep up with everything going on with all our pet blogger pals, but most of my time is taken up with writing for the two blogs (not to mention all the open mics and stand-up shows I do after work).

*Anything else you would like to add?
Give Rolo a biscuit and a belly rub for me!
