Meet our furry friend Bella.
Bella is a Canine Epilepsy Warrior like Rolo. How cute is she! Check out the interview we did with her mom Rhiannon and be sure to follow her journey on her Facebook page here —> https://www.facebook.com/BellatheEpiWarrior
*What is your name?
Wade and Rhiannon Woodruff
*Where are you from?
*What is your pet(s) (Age, Breed & Name)?
Bella is a five year old chi/pin, chihuahua and miniature doberman pinscher.
*What are some interesting facts about your pet(s)?
Bella was diagnosed with canine idiopathic epilepsy in May of 2013. She had a bad reaction to Comfortis when it built up in her system and became toxic. She seized for three days and suffered temporary blindness and hearing loss. Although her hearing and sight did come back, she suffered permanent brain damage. She is an inspiration to many people, and has her own Facebook page called Bella the Epi Warrior.
*What is your pet (s) favorite treat?
Popsicles! She will lick mine if it gets close enough for her to do so, and has even stolen one from my hand before!
*What is your pet(s) favorite trick?
She will “speak” when the alarms we set for her medicine go off. If we don’t get it rght away, she will even dance and bounce around!
*Where is your pet(s) favorite place to go?
Bed! She loves to be under the covers in the bed with us. She falls asleep in my arms every night!
*Perspective on Adopting a Rescue?
We actually just adopted Bella’s sister, a chihuahua and miniature dachshund mix, from our local PAWS. We have adopted a few times in the past as well.
*What’s your favorite thing to do with your pet(s)?
I love to throw her squeaky stuffed animals and watch her go after them. She makes them squeak and will go at it for some time!
*What is your favorite quote?
Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole.
*Favorite website to get pet information from?
Facebook has several support groups for canine epilepsy. I am constantly seeking them out for support and information.
*Do your pets (s) love to go for car rides?
YES! All of them do! They are constantly going with us for rides.
*What’s your favorite animal product?
Puppy pads! Definitely!
*Why do you think volunteering at an animal rescue/shelter is important?
While I wish everyone was responsible pet owners, that’s just not the case. Shelters are important because it is not the animals fault that their owner was not responsible. They need a safe haven. Without the many volunteers, where would these babies end up? I hate to think of the many, many innocent babies that would continue to suffer. Too many already do.
*Anything extra you would like to add?
Bella has taught us patience, tolerance, unconditional love, and to not take any moment for granted. She loves with a love that is so abundant it makes my heart swell! Our goal is to make every moment of her life happy. We want to live with no regrets. We hope to help raise awareness for canine epilepsy. And we are grateful for our perfectly imperfect baby girl!
