Where we live the closest PetSmart® to us is a 4.5 hour drive south located in Alberta’s Capital, Edmonton. I find us traveling there every few months and you bet Rolo comes with us. We always make sure we stop in to one of the PetSmart stores, stock up on items we love and search for new products to try. He loves strutting down the isles, smelling all the loose bones and squeaking at all the other dogs in the store. We love PetSmart not only for the great products they carry but also their ways of giving back through PetSmart Charities®.
PetSmart has just announced the launching of their LARGEST philanthropic effort ever in 30 years! The Buy a Bag, Give a Meal™ program, where every bag of dog or cat food(any brand, any style) purchased online or at one of it’s 1,500+ stores across the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico, they will donate a meal to a pet in need. The program runs March 1st ,2017 until December 31, 2017, and PetSmart expects to donate more than 60 million meals. Read the PetSmart press release here.
How does it work?
When you purchase a bag of cat or dog food (any brand, any size), from a PetSmart store, http://www.petsmart.com or http://www.petsmart.ca between March 1st, 2017 until December 31st, 2017, PetSmart will donate a meal(5oz of dog food, 1.5oz of cat food) to a dog or cat in need. This doesn’t mean just animal shelters, but animal welfare organizations and food banks too! Check out the video below as PetSmart introduces The Buy a Bag, Give a Meal™ program.
“According to David Haworth, DVM, Ph.D., president of PetSmart Charities, up to 7 million pets enter shelters every year across North America. While these pets await adoption and their forever homes, they need access to pet food, making pet food a significant operating expense for animal welfare organizations.” So if you have a dog or a cat, and don’t already purchase your pet food at PetSmart, consider starting. Not only will you be feeding your pet, but pets in need too!
